The Je lis, je lis, littératie ! Benchmark Assessment Kit provides unseen texts at varying levels to assess students' reading and written comprehension skills. This kit allows the teacher to observe the reading fluency of students and report & interpret their observations. The use of different levels of unseen texts ensures consistency for the assessment of each student.

In each unseen text of the Je lis, je lis, littératie ! Benchmark Assessment Kit, particular attention is paid to:

  • Accuracy of levels
  • Gradual introduction of new vocabulary words
  • Sentence structures
  • Useful and precise illustrations
  • Image-to-text associations

The Je lis, je lis, littératie ! Benchmark Assessment Kit can be used to:

Place students of the same level together at the start of the school year
Categorize reading skills according to whether the student reads: fluently; with help; with difficulty
Identify the reading strategies used by a student when they read a text that they see for the first time
Determine the ability of each student to understand the subject covered in the text and outside the context of the unseen text
Adjust future reading activities according to a student's weaknesses
Determine the individual learning needs of each student
Monitor progress in reading and written comprehension for each student
Determine the right reading level for each student
